Our 1-day workshop provides a focused, clinically relevant introduction to left ventricular diastolic function for point-of-care ultrasound users. It translates guideline-based echocardiography into practical bedside decision-making, helping participants understand how the heart relaxes and fills, and how this influences presentations such as dyspnoea, shock, and undifferentiated haemodynamic instability.
Key topics include mitral inflow (E and A waves, E/A ratio), tissue Doppler (e’), E/e’, TR velocity, left atrial volume, pulmonary venous flow, and IVRT, with a strong emphasis on image acquisition, interpretation, and clinical integration.
Participants will learn how to combine findings to assess filling pressures and recognise patterns of diastolic dysfunction, supporting more confident bedside decisions. The workshop is highly practical, combining extensive hands-on scanning in small groups with concise lectures and case-based learning.
