On behalf of the organising committee, welcome to what promises to be another fantastic opportunity to learn, connect and shape the future of perioperative medicine together. We are privileged to gather on the lands of the Palawa people, the Traditional Custodians of lutruwita (Tasmania), and pay our respects to Elders past and present.

This year’s program reflects the breadth of perioperative medicine, bringing together perspectives from surgery, anaesthesia, geriatrics, general medicine, nursing, allied health, consumers and healthcare leaders. From delirium and prehabilitation, to quality improvement, digital innovation and the future of perioperative care, the meeting explores both the foundations of good care and the opportunities that lie ahead.

We are honoured to welcome our keynote speaker, Dr Ben Bravery. Originally trained as a zoologist, Ben’s own experience navigating treatment for colorectal cancer led him to change careers and pursue medicine. Now a psychiatrist, author and advocate for more human-centred healthcare, he brings a unique perspective from both sides of the healthcare system. His opening address, “What Patients Remember When Healthcare Forgets”, is a fitting way to begin a meeting dedicated to improving the perioperative journey and delivering care that truly matters.

Whether joining for the first time or returning as a long-standing member of the perioperative community, thank you for being part of the journey.
