Aim
To provide an introduction to thoracic anaesthesia for trainees and a refresher in thoracic anaesthesia for consultants & nursing staff
Content
This half day workshop is designed for the generalist anaesthetist who occasionally encounters thoracic anaesthesia, particularly in after-hours or urgent setting.
Topics include lung isolation (with emphasis on choosing the best airway device); lung protective strategies; managing hypoxia on one lung; analgesic strategies; DLT placement, (including in difficult airway, and on right side); bronchoscopy training; and bronchial blocker use
Anaesthetic assistants seeking to familiarise themselves with equipment and the sequences involved in establishing lung isolation are encouraged to attend with medical colleagues
